ADA — Ohio Northern junior Will Shaffer (Galena/St. Francis DeSales) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 1-3.
This marks Shaffer's first career OAC Player of the Week accolade.
The recognition comes after he scored three goals in helping lead the Polar Bears to season-opening victories of 4-2 over No. 5 Kenyon and 4-0 at Oberlin.
Against Kenyon on Friday, Shaffer tied the score at 1-1 with a penalty kick goal in the 21st minute and put Northern up 2-1 with another goal in the 41st minute.
He added his third goal in as many days by finding the back of the net in the 49th minute against Oberlin on Sunday to give ONU a 2-0 edge.
Shaffer currently leads the OAC with three goals on the season and is tied for first in the conference with six points.
The 13th-ranked Polar Bears return to action on Friday hosting No. 19 Calvin (Mich.) at 7:30 p.m. as part of the two-day ONU Invitational.
