ADA — Ohio Northern senior goalkeeper Josh Ellis (Whitehouse/Anthony Wayne) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 24-30.
This marks the second career OAC Player of the Week accolade for Ellis, who also earned the honor earlier this season on Sept. 19.
The latest recognition comes after Ellis returned from a six-game injury absence last week to help the Polar Bears secure their first OAC Regular Season championship since 2015 and the accompanying No. 1 seed and first-round bye for the OAC Tournament.
Ellis started and played 80:44 of game time in earning a combined shutout in ONU's 3-0 win over Marietta to end the regular season on Saturday after playing the final 2:48 of Wednesday's 5-1 win at Baldwin Wallace.
He has a 7-2-2 record on the season with a .711 save percentage and 1.23 GAA. He is tied for 10th all-time at ONU with six career shutouts.
The Polar Bears (13-2-3 overall, 8-0-1 OAC) enter the postseason riding a seven-game win streak as part of a larger 15-game unbeaten streak that ranks second all-time to a 19-game streak from 2016.
Northern returns to the field on Thursday to host an OAC Tournament semifinal game at 4 p.m.
