Mulligan, Sexton lead Men's Lacrosse to a 24-4 win over Wilmington to wrap regular season play

ADA — Sophomore Cooper Mulligan (Middletown/Bishop Fenwick) and freshman Aidan Sexton (Milford) had four points each to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 24-4 victory over Wilmington on a stormy Wednesday evening to end regular season action. 

The Basics

• Records: Ohio Northern (11-6 Overall, 7-1 OAC), Wilmington (5-11 Overall, 0-8 OAC).
• Venue: Dial-Roberson Stadium- Ada, Ohio. 
• A 50 minute weather delay caused this game to begin at 7:50 pm.

The Game  

• Sophomore Cooper Mulligan (Middletown/Bishop Fenwick) and freshman Aidan Sexton (Milford) led ONU with four points each.
• Senior J.D. Hale (West Chester/Lakota West) added a three-goal hat trick for the Polar Bears. 
• Junior Jack Chaney (Westerville/South) kicked off the scoring for Northern with a goal 50 seconds into the first period.
• After, Chaney's goal Northern scored six unanswered goals to take a 7-0 lead. 
• Sophomore Jacob Verbanic (Tully, N.Y.) began the second period by finding the back of the net to extend the ONU lead to 9-1.
• The Polar Bears led 16-2 going into halftime. 
• After a Wilmington goal to begin the third period, Northern went on a 4-0 run to take a 20-3 lead. 
• Freshman Marty Watson (Dexter, Mich.) opened the fourth period with a goal to extend the lead to 21-4. 
• The Polar Bear defense combined for eight caused turnovers in the contest. 
• Three different goalies combined to get the victory.  
• The Polar Bears out-shot the Quakers 59-17 and had the ground ball advatange 35-18.

• Ohio Northern clinched the No. 2 seed and a quarterfinal bye in the OAC Tournament.
• ONU will now host a semifinal game on April 29 at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
• Chaney leads the Polar Bears in points this season with 44 on 21 goals and a team-best 23 assists.
• Sexton leads the team in goals this season with 25.
• Junior Ryan Frech (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) has a team-high 17 caused turnovers this season. 
• Junior Devin Halliday (Delaware/Hayes) has a team-high 143 face-off wins.
• He is also 4th all-time in face-off wins with 264.
• He also leads the team in ground balls this season with 57.
• Sophomore Peyton Lich (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) ranks third all-time in ONU history with 299 saves, 23 wins, and 1758 minutes played in goal.
• Head coach Nat St.Laurent is in his 11th season at Ohio Northern with a 119-59 record, a winning percentage of .668.
