KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Freshman Noah St. Croix scored three goals and dished out two assists to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 10-3 victory at Kalamazoo (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon at MacKenzie Field.
The Polar Bears improve to 5-1 in their inaugural season, while the Hornets fall to 3-2 in their first season as a varsity program.
ONU scored three goals in each of the first three periods and built a 10-1 lead in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Mitch Groves scored two goals three minutes apart after freshman Anthony Pavone tallied a goal as ONU led 3-0 after the first period.
In the second quarter, St. Croix scored twice and Pavone scored again as ONU led 6-0 before a Hornet goal made it 6-1 at intermission.
Freshmen Connor Preston and Dylan Palin scored to make it 8-1 and St. Croix got the hat trick with his third goal with 1:33 left in the third period to put ONU up 9-1.
Freshman Steven Slagle scored 2:36 into the fourth quarter to make it 10-1 Polar Bears.
Ohio Northern out-shot Kalamazoo 32-21 and won the turnover battle 30-24.
Freshman Bryce Bouman had five saves in goal for ONU.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday night with a 7 pm game against area-rival Defiance at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
