Men's Golf shatters 36-hole team school record, will take seven shot lead into final round of the OAC Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE - The Ohio Northern men's golf team shattered its 36-hole school record on Saturday, overtaking Marietta and grabbing a 7-shot lead after the second day of the OAC Championships.

The Basics

• Ohio Northern is 1st of eight teams, shooting rounds of 291-288--579 through 36 of 54 holes.
• ONU Season Record: 92-19-1.
• Otterbein is in 2nd with rounds of 293-293--586. Mount Union is 3rd, firing 294-293--587, while Marietta is 4th, shooting 287-302--589.

• Freshman Zach Butcher (Medina/Highland) has fired impressive scores of 75-70--145 on the 6,684-yard course.
• Senior Bennett Christy (Plymouth, Ind.), who has led the Polar Bears overall, has fired scores of 72-72--144.
• He is in 2nd place among 40 golfers.
• Junior Aashir Patel (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant), sophomore Ian Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne), and freshman Sam Cramer (Plain City/Alder) have each gone 73-73--146.

• The 36-hole score of 579 has broken the previous record by 7 shots.
• Butcher is tied for 3rd place individually, while Patel, Briars, and Cramer are tied for 7th.
• Today's team score of 288 is the third-best all-time in ONU men's golf history; The Day 1 18-hole score of 291 is the fourth-best.
• The top 5 individual finishers and ties will be named to the All-Tournament Team.
• The team champion receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships May 12-15 at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
