Patel notches ace on first swing of season as Men's Golf wins ONU Kick Off Classic in season opener

HARROD — The Ohio Northern men's golf team opened its 2025-26 season by winning the ONU Kick Off Classic on Sunday.
The Basics
- Ohio Northern finished first of four teams with a 300.
- John Carroll won the team title by two strokes with a 331, Heidelberg and Baldwin Wallace tied for second with 320s and Bluffton was fourth with a 326.
- ONU Season Record: 3-0.
- Venue: Colonial G.C. - Harrod, Ohio.
ONU Individuals
- Senior Evan Dennison (Ashland/Mapleton) carded an even par 72 to finish tied for third out of 68 golfers on the par-72, 6886-yard course.
- Senior Aidan Chandler (Ashland) tied for eighth with a 75.
- Senior Joey DeSimone (Monroe Falls/Stow-Monroe Falls) was 11th with a 76.
- Junior Aashir Patel (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant), playing as an individual, won Medalist honors with a 2-under par 70.
- Freshman Zach Butcher (Medina/Highland) was second with a 71 as an individual.
- Sophomore Ian Briars (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) tied for third with a 72 as an individual.
Notables
- This is the third consecutive season that ONU has opened its season with a Kick Off Classic at Colonial Golfers Club.
- Patel notched an ace on his first swing of the season. After missing the 2024-25 season, he holed his first shot of the season with a 9-iron on the 147-yard par-3 16th hole.
- ONU head coach Chad Bucci is 430-403-16 in his 13th season at the helm of the men's program, a winning percentage of .516.
