Men's Golf ties for top honors at 7-team Capital Invitational

GALENA — Sophomore Blaine Ricketts fired a 9-over par 74-79—153 to lead the Ohio Northern men's golf team to a tie for first place at the Capital Purple & White Invitational Thursday and Friday at the Royal American Links and New Albany Links courses.

The Polar Bears (29-15) shot a 321-307—628 and finished tied with Otterbein, who shot a 318-310—628.

Otterbein won the 5th-man tiebreaker as ONU only played with four golfers on Friday due to injury.

Ricketts tied for fourth out of 46 golfers with his 153.

Junior Rick Deichert was seventh with a 79-76—155, freshman Zach Goodchild tied for eighth with an 80-76—156 and freshman Tim Monroe was 31st with a 93-76—169 for ONU.

Mount Union's Mitch Johnson won Medalist honors with a 74-74—148.

The Polar Bears will return to action April 12-13 at the Ohio Athletic Conference Spring Invitational at the Little Turtle Golf Club.
