Derek May

Bio

Derek May is in his first season as head coach of the Ohio Northern University men’s and women’s bowling programs in 2026–27.

He served as an assistant coach at ONU since the program's inception in the 2023-24 season.

May is a USBC Silver-certified coach has been part of the program since its inception in the 2023–24 season, previously serving as an assistant coach and helping lay the foundation for its early development.

He began bowling at the age of 12 and has remained deeply involved in the sport ever since. After bowling in high school, he continued his career at the collegiate level at Bowling Green State University, where he got his B.S. in Computer and Electronics Engineering. During his collegiate career at BGSU, he earned several All-Tournament Team selections and helped lead his team to several tournament victories.

He obtained his USBC Bronze certification in 2018 and Silver certification in 2019. In addition to his collegiate coaching role, May provides private lessons, group instruction and clinics.

May also brings valuable pro shop experience from his time working at Ye Olde Pro Shoppe and further enhancing his technical knowledge of the sport.

A passionate advocate for bowling, May is committed to developing student-athletes and leading the continued growth of the Ohio Northern University bowling program.

He resides in Findlay with his wife, Christina.
