Men's Basketball drops its OAC season opener to Wilmington 88-78

ADA — The Ohio Northern's men's basketball team kicked off its Ohio Athletic Conference play with an 88-78 home loss to Wilmington on Wednesday night.
- Records: Ohio Northern (4-4 Overall, 0-1 OAC), Wilmington (3-4 Overall, 1-1 OAC).
- Venue: ONU Sports Center - Ada, Ohio.
The Game
- Senior Will Miller (Ottoville) led the Polar Bears with 15 points.
- Sophomore Aiden Harris (Pandora/Pandora-Gilboa) added 12 points and grabbed a team high 7 rebounds.
- Junior Theo Maag (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) pitched in 10 points and grabbed 6 boards.
- Dominic Farley and Izaiah Cathey led the Quakers with 22 points each.
- Wilmington closed the game on a 16-7 run to turn a slim 72-71 advantage into the final 88-78 final.
- Trailing 52-42, an 11-0 Polar Bears run, keyed by eight consecutive points from sophomore Conye Gaston (Toledo/Christian), would give the hosts a 53-52 lead with 14:50 remaining.
- A 9-1 Quaker run gave the visitors a 63-57 lead with 10:40 to go.
- Miller tied the game at 66-all with 7:44 left on a layup.
- Northern led 26-19 with 7:14 to go in the 1st half, but Wilmington would close the first half with a 24-8 run to lead 43-34 at intermission.
- Ohio Northern was 23-of-51 from the floor for 45.1 percent and made 4-23 three-pointers for 17.4 percent, while Wilmington finished 25-of-51 from the field for 49.0 percent and 2-of-14 from three-point range for 14.3
- ONU made 14-of-18 free throws for 77.8 percent and WC was 19-of-26 from the foul line for 73.1 percent.
- The Polar Bears out rebounded the Quakers 30-28.
