Horstman scores season-high 21 points, but Men's Basketball falls to Heidelberg 78-75

TIFFIN -- Senior Jared Horstman scored a season-high 21 points, but the Ohio Northern men's basketball team dropped a 78-75 road contest to Heidelberg on Wednesday night at Seiberling Gymnasium.
The Polar Bears drop to 7-7 on the season and 3-4 in the OAC, while the Student Princes move to 5-9, 1-6.
Horstman finished 9-of-13 from the field and also pulled down eight rebounds.
Senior Dominique Royal added 14 points and seven rebounds and junior Isaiah Roux finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Mike Petrie scored a game-high 29 points for Heidelberg.
Two free throws from Petrie put Heidelberg up 74-67 with 1:16 left to play in the game.
ONU would counter on its next possession on a three pointer from junior Lucas Pennington, to cut the Student Princes lead to 74-70.
The Polar Bears would get a stop and Royal would sink a jumper to put Northern down 74-72 with 44 seconds remaining.
After Heidelberg missed two free throws, Pennington would drain a three to put the Polar Bears in front 75-74 with 12 seconds left.
But Heidelberg would get a layup from Deonte Holder with one second left and add two free throws to grab the win.
Northern jumped out to an early 9-7 lead, with Horstman scoring all nine points on three pointers.
Heidelberg used an 8-0 run midway through the first half to take a 27-22 lead and would take a 37-30 advantage into the break.
The Polar Bears finished the game 29-of-63 (46.0 percent) from the field, while the Student Princes went 25-of-55 (45.5. percent).
Northern held a slim 35-33 advantage in rebounding.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Saturday, when it travels to take on Capital at 3 pm.
