Junior Robbie Reed joins the 100-Hit Club as Baseball posts 13-3 victory over Bluffton

ADA — Junior Robbie Reed (Goshen, Ky./Trinity) joined the 100-Hit Club as the Ohio Northern baseball team picked up its 23rd victory of the season with a 13-3 victory over Bluffton on Monday afternoon.

Individual Highlights

• Ohio Northern started the day by scoring in 5 straight innings. 
• Northern's offense struck in the first thanks to an 2-RBI double by sophomore Evan Russ (Westfield, Ind./Westfield).
• ONU's offense added to its lead in the 2nd inning on a sacrifice bunt by senior Elliott Veenstra (Findlay/Liberty Benton) that scored Reed to make it 4-0.
• Sophomore Kyler Lapp (Hall, Ill./Hall) hit a sacrifice fly and made it 5-0 in favor of the Polar Bears.
• Ohio Northern added more to its lead in the third when sophomore Zane Pratt (Piqua) knocked in freshman Aslyn Farinelli (Crown Point, Ind.)
• Senior Andrew Stechschulte (Findlay) launched an RBI double off the right field wall in the 4th to make it 9-0.
• Bluffton would battle back, scoring 2 runs of its own in the 6th.
• Sophomore Devon Morris (Archbold) answered with a solo homer in the bottom half of the inning to make it 10-2.
• The Beavers struck again in the 7th to make it 10-3.
• Sophomore Kyle Callahan (Brunswick) and Russ each hit an RBI single and Stechschulte knocked in Callahan in the 8th to wrap up the Polar Bears' offensive day at 13-3. 
• Nine different Polar Bear hitters notched a hit in the game.
• Senior Blake Altaffer (Monteplier) earned the win (4-3) on the day, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing only 2 runs.
• Stechschulte led the ONU offensive attack, going 4-for-5 at the plate. Russ had 3 RBI to lead the team.

• Ohio Northern now leads the all-time series with Bluffton by a 105-44-6 margin.
• Through 31 games this season, Veenstra leads the Polar Bears with a .418 batting average, going 33-for-79 with 24 RBI.
• Veenstra entered today's game as the OAC leader in batting average with an average of .416.
• Reed has now joined the 100-Hit Club with his 100th 107 career games.
