No. 25 Women's Cross Country finishes fifth at high-profile Brooks Invitational at UW-Oshkosh

WINNECONNE, Wis. — The Ohio Northern women's cross country team showcased its national prowess at UW-Oshkosh's Brooks Invitational, finishing fifth of 43 scoring teams Saturday afternoon at Lake Breeze Golf Course.

Nine of the 51 total teams represented at the event were of nationally-ranked caliber. The race was an opportunity for squads to preview the course to be used for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Nov. 19.

Finishing ahead of the Polar Bears and their 222 points was third-ranked Washington (Mo.), which finished first with 61 points, followed by fifth-ranked MIT in second with 123 points. No. 7 Calvin (Mich.) and No. 13 St. Olaf (Minn.) finished third and fourth respectively.

Junior Alison Steinbrenner was the first Northern racer to finish, crossing the end line 11^th overall in 22.24. Classmate Lydia Weaver finished in 22:56, good enough for 39^th overall.

Senior Ashley Baumer crossed 47^th overall in 23:01, followed by freshman Shayla Seifker at 52^nd in 23:07. Rounding out the Top-5 Polar Bear finishers was Mallory Bloom in 23:21,good enough for 73^rd overall.

Washington's Erica Jackey won the race in 21:38.

Northern off next weekend before hosting the OAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Lost Creek Golf Course in Lima, Ohio. The women's race is set for 11 a.m.
