ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Ohio Northern volleyball team completed its annual trip to the Washington (Mo.)/Asics National Tournament with two contests against nationally ranked opponents.
Northern fell 3-0 to both No. 8 Carthage (25-18, 25-22 and 25-13) and 3-0 to No. 6 Christopher Newport (25-16, 25-17 and 25-23), moving to 4-4 overall.
Sophomore Jayce Born led the Polar Bear offense against the Lady Reds with seven kills, followed by junior Ellen Grenert with six. Freshman Amanda Volosin had 21 assists.
Defensively, sophomore Jeni Kmic had 23 digs, while classmate Kristen Davidson had three blocks (two solo and one assist).
Against the Captains, sophomore Cenzie Yoder had eight kills, while Davidson had seven; Volosin had 27 assists in the match.
Kmic notched 20 digs while sophomore Hannah Livengood had 12 digs.
Northern returns to action next Friday and Saturday, when the team travels to the 2011 Great Lakes Regional Challenge, hosted by Wittenberg. The Polar Bears will take on MIAA opponents Hope, Alma and Calvin.
