No. 19 Wrestling opens season at 2011 Olivet Comet Wrestling Duals
OLIVET, Mich. — The No. 19-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team opened the 2011-12 season at the 2011 Olivet (Mich.) Wrestling Duals, hosted Saturday at the Cutler Event Center going 1-3 overall on the day.
The Polar Bears won 36-12 over Trine (Ind.), and fell 23-14 to 18th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, 29-9 to second-ranked Wis.-La Crosse and 32-10 to No. 23 Olivet.
Sophomore Michael Pawlitz went undefeated in the 197-pound weight class, posting three pins and defeating Whitewater's Justin Birschbach, 6-0.
Pawlitz's pins were against La Crosse's Cody Endres in 1:48, Trine's Maxwell Begovich in an impressive 17 seconds and Olivet's Justin Leonard in 2:03.
Junior Kyle Kwiat won three matches at 184, defeating Whitewater's David Dwyer 10-7, Trine's Ryan Pieper 9-4 and Olivet's Josh Crawford, 16-5.
Freshman Cole Cochran pinned Trine's Brandon Preston in 18 seconds, and also picking up wins for Northern were sophomore Ben Marks, senior Billy Painter, senior Mick Letcher, and freshman Kyle Brezovec.
Northern opens its home portion of the schedule Nov. 29 when it hosts Mount St. Joseph at 7 p.m.
