Cranmer wins Medalist honors, leads Women's Golf to third place finish at 13-team Heidelberg Fall Invitational

TIFFIN — Freshman Lydia Cranmer (Farmington Hills, Mich./Ladywood) fired a career-low 75 and claimed Medalist honor with an 80-75—155 to lead the Ohio Northern women's golf team to a third place finish at the 13-team Heidelberg Fall Invitational on Saturday-Sunday at Mohawk Country Club.

The Polar Bears (14-3 overall) were in fifth place after 18 holes on Saturday, but posted the tournament's lowest round with a 324 on Sunday to finish with a 360-324—684 and move up two spots in the team standings.

Saint Mary's (Ind.) won the team title with a 334-327—661, Grace (Ind.) was second with a 355-328—683 and Indiana-Kokomo was fourth with a 351-339—690.

Cranmer also broke her career-low 36-hole score with her 155 to win Medalist honors by three shots over Hunter Kehoe of Saint Mary's, who carded an 80-78—158.

Juniors Caitlin Silva (Hilliard/Bradley) and Suzanne Short (Findlay) tied for 11th with 172s and sophomore Taylor Daniel (Columbia City, Ind.) tied for 32nd with a 97-86—183 for Ohio Northern.

Cranmer's 75 ties her for the third-lowest round in ONU history and is just two strokes off the school record 73 by Meagan Brennan at Illinois Wesleyan in 2008. Her 36-hole total of 155 is four shots off the record 151 carded by Brennen at IWU.

The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday-Sunday with the OAC Fall Preview at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio.
