This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern men's soccer program will begin its 2018 campaign this weekend when the team travels to reigning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference champion Transylvania (Ky.) and as they host the NJCAA's Cincinnati State on September 1 and 2, respectively ... Saturday night's matchup against Transylvania (Ky.) is slated for a 7 p.m. start time at Pat Deacon Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky ... Meanwhile, kickoff for the Polar Bears' match against Cincinnati State is scheduled for Sunday at 12 p.m. at Kerscher Stadium in Ada … During the 2017 season, Northern compiled a 12-6-2 overall record, which included a 5-3-1 conference mark … The team finished in a tie for third in the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season standings and qualified for the OAC Tournament … 21st-year head coach Brent Ridenour and his staff will welcome back 21 varsity letter winners to the roster this season … Three athletes return having won multiple letters at Northern, including fifth-year senior Dakota Swisher (Westlake) and three time-letter winners Anthony DeNoi (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and Joseph Schulte (Copley) … Schulte returns as the team's top goal scorer from one season ago when he found the net on six different occasions … Sophomore Zachary Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) will also return having ended second among returners with four goals scored … He and junior John Sternasty (Akron/Revere) topped the assists category for returners with three assists each.

ONU holds a 2-2-1 all-time record against the Pioneers with their most recent match resulting in a 2-0 victory back in 2012. Ohio Northern's match against Cincinnati State marks the first time the two teams have met in school history.
