KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Ohio Northern baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip with a 12-2 victory over Medaille (N.Y.) and a 12-2 loss to No. 15-ranked Webster (Mo.) on Sunday at Osceola Heritage Park.
The Polar Bears finish their appearance in the Russ Matt Invitational with a 7-3 record.
Sophomore Michael Rocco (Orlando, Fla./Zionsville) went 4-for-4 with 6 RBI to lead ONU against the Mavericks (2-1) on Sunday afternoon.
Rocco had back-to-back 2-run singles in the fourth and fifth innings as ONU turned a 2-1 lead into a 7-1 advantage.
He later added a 2-run double in the eighth frame and also scored Northern's first run in the top of the third on a single by senior Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn).
Junior Phil Buckingham (Wayne/Elmwood) was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and a stolen base.
Junior Josh Mohr (Oregon/Clay) allowed only one earned run in 5.0 innings of work to pick up the win on the mound and improve to 1-0 on the season.
Senior Blake Lester (Chesepeake) threw the final three innings to pick up his first career save.
The game was called after eight innings due to a 10-run rule employed in games at the tournament.
Against the Gorlocks (6-2) Sunday morning, ONU got off to a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the first by sophomore Will Davis (Upper Arlington/Bishop Watterson).
Freshman Corey McMann (Flower Mound, Tex./Liberty Christian) scored an unearned run in the fourth.
The game was called after 7 innings due to the tournament's 10-run rule.
The Polar Bears are scheduled to open the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday with a 4 pm contest against area-rival Bluffton at Wander Field, weather permitting.
