What is your major and what are your plans after graduation? My major is biology and I plan to go to physical therapy school. I’m applying to Ohio State, Toledo, Findlay, Walsh and Dayton. What made you pick Ohio Northern? I picked ONU mostly because of volleyball, and I liked the location of the school. What other activities did you do in high school besides volleyball? That seems to long ago to remember. I was in the standard stuff like German club and honors society. The only sport I played was volleyball. When and why did you start to play volleyball? I started playing because my parents both did. They dragged me to all of their games in the rec leagues that they played in. I would be in my playpen when they were out playing. Volleyball was just what my family did. Who have been some of your role models? I look up to my mom a lot. She has been my biggest role model. I try to live my life like she does and take care of people like she does. She goes out of her way to make that happen. Who are some of your favorite athletes? I like watching beach volleyball. I like to watch Kerri Walsh and Misty May because they are so good and they dominate their sport. Describe Coach Witte and her coaching philosophies. Coach Witte is the hardest coach I’ve ever played for. I’ve never had a coach push me the way she has. I also don’t think I would ever be playing at the level I am without her now. She is intense and demanding but I would not have her any other way. What has the ONU volleyball program meant to you over these past four year? I like the expectations of always being good every year. No one wants to be the team that doesn’t win the OAC Championship or make the NCAA Tournament. I’m not scared of the expectation. It feels to be a part of something so big. As the lone senior, describe your role on the team. I think I have figured it out even thought it took me a while. I need to be a steady player on the court. I think my fellow upperclassmen have taken up a lot of the leadership roles so the pressure of being a captain isn’t completely on my shoulders, which makes me feel better. I need to keep doing my job and hope that everyone else continues to do their job as well. Once volleyball is over, what will be the most valuable thing you will be able to take with you? I have learned what true teamwork is and how to give of myself unselfishly. For the years I didn’t play I learned how to cheer for teammates from the bench and enjoy their achievements. What is your best piece of advice to give an incoming freshman or underclassmen volleyball player? Keep your head together. Make yourself mentally tough. Take things as they come, one at a time, instead of always looking at the whole picture. What is your biggest asset to the team this year? I am the only player who plays all-around and does everything. As the only returning defensive player, that is where I am needed most since we are loaded with talented hitters. Defense needs to take care of the ball first though so we are able to use our hitters. What do you like to do in your limited free time? Sleep. Relax. Do nothing. It’s always nice just to do nothing for a while and hang out with friends. |
