ADA — The No. 26-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday night with a convincing 44-6 victory over Wilmington at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 1-3 overall (1-0 OAC), while the Quakers fall to 0-1, 0-1.

No. 4-ranked Ben Plowman recorded a technical fall over Rex Pitsinger at 174 pounds, winning 17-1 at the 5:47 mark of the bout.

After David Penny won by forfeit at 125 pounds, Jeff Penny pinned D’Von Ellison in 1:58 to give the Polar Bears a 12-0 advantage.

A.J. Coleman won by forfeit at 157 to push the lead to 24-0, Josh Bordner won by decision 10-6 at 165 to make it 27-0 and Plowman’s technical fall gave ONU a 32-0 advantage.

Drew Swick won by forfeit at 184 to push the lead to 38-0 and Michel’s pin at 197 gave the Polar Bears a 44-0 advantage.

“This was a good way to open the OAC schedule,” ONU head coach Ron Beaschler said. “Any win in the OAC is a good one. This was nice for our younger guys to get a taste of success after last weekend when we wrestled two of the top 10 teams in the nation. It will give them some confidence that they can win at the collegiate level.”

Northern opened its season Nov. 17 at the Olivet (Mich.) Comet Duals and fell to No. 3-ranked Wisconsin-LaCrosse, No. 9-ranked Olivet and Mount Saint Joseph on that day.

The Polar Bears will return to action Dec. 4 at Tri-State (Ind.) in a non-conference dual at 7:30 pm.
