ONU Wrestlers dominate Muskingum 35-6 |

Jan. 8, 2008 By Patrick Massara ADA Ben Plowman and Jeff Penny led the way for the Ohio Northen wrestling team as they defeated the Muskingum Muskies Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center. The Polar Bears earned a 35-6 victory as they improve to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Atheltic Conference. Muskingum falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. No. 7-ranked Ben Plowman improves to 9-6 on the year as he pinned Chris Farrington at the 4:33 mark. Sophomore Jeff Penny also recorded a pin defeating Donnell Nelson 2:19 into the match. He has pinned both of his OAC opponents this year. No. 8-ranked David Penny won by major decsion over Michael Halko, 14-3. His record now stands at 16-3 overall and 2-0 in the OAC. After David and Jeff Penny picked up their victories, Nick Hoopes and Jeff Sommers also picked up decisions of their own to put ONU ahead 16-0. Josh Bordner deafeated Ralph Geesey by technical fall at the 5:00 mark. He moves to 10-7 overall and 2-0 in OAC play. ONU finished the night with a pair of major decions by Drew Michel and Joe Fisher. Both remain undefeated in the OAC. In Exhibition matches, Jason VanAtta and Collin Swick pinned both of their oppenents in the 1st Period. A.J. Coleman won by major decsion, 13-1. “We wrestle in tough tournaments like last weekend to prepare ourselves for OAC matches, and our guys were ready to go tonight,” said Coach Ron Beaschler. “We set the tone early and wrestled hard all night. It was a good win.” The Polar Bears will next be in action at the National Duals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this weekend. ONU will open up Saturday against No. 5 Luther (Iowa) at 9am.
