Women's Track & Field finishes fifth at Midwest Invitational

MONMOUTH, Ill.— Ohio Northern women’s track and field team took fifth place at the Midwest Invitational at Monmouth College (Ill.).

Northern scored 96 points against the seven team field, falling to champion Augustana (Ill.) with 168 points, Illinois Wesleyan with 138.5 points, Wartburg (Iowa) with 133 points, and Monmouth with 101.5 points.

Scoring second place finishes for the Polar Bears were Courtney Zupancic and Regina Bresson. Sophomore Zupancic had a career best throw of 45’ 7” (13.89m) in the weight throw and junior Bresson ran a 11:02.84 in the 3,000 meter run.

Also taking second place in a three-way tie was Jessie Naderer, Janelle Jansen, and Aubrie Stechschulte in pole vault with vaults of 9’ 10” (3.00m).

Earning third, fourth and sixth place in the 400 meter dash were juniors Dani Noe, Joy Kessler and sophomore Brittany Farber at 1:02.30, 1:02.68, and 1:03.45, respectively.

Stechschulte also took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 7 1/4”.

Sophomore Karen Thatcher clocked in at 45.45 and Kristen Yoho at 46.85 in the 300 meter dash, earning fifth and seventh place.

In the 800 meter run, Rachel Pavelko ran a time of 2:29.51 for sixth place, Amanda Binkey 2:29.52 for siventh place, and Rachel Smith 2:31.81 for eighth place

The Ohio Northern women’s track and field team returns to action next Friday, February 1, where they will host the OAC Relays at the ONU Sports Center in Ada.
