Kessler leads ONU women's track to season-opening victory |

Jan. 11, 2008 By Alyssa Ahlers ADA Junior Joy Kessler won three events to lead the Ohio Northern women’s track and field team to a season-opening win at Friday Night Series Meet #1 at the ONU Sports Center. Northern scored 248 points to finish first in the meet, while Findlay placed second with 172. St. Norbert was third with 40 points. Kessler won the 400-meter dash in 1:04.28 and was a member of the victorious 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Senior Amy Swigert, junior Abby Schulte and sophomore Kristen Yoho joined Kessler on the 4x200 which clocked a time of 1:54.40. In the 4x400, Kessler teamed with junior Danielle Noe, sophomore Brittany Farber and freshman Lauren Rupp to win with a time of 4:21.92. Junior Regina Bresson and freshman Melissa Goodman both earned first-place finishes for the Polar Bears. Bresson finished with a time of 11:24 in the 3,000-meter run, while Goodman threw 40-05 in shot put. Following Goodman was Courtney Zupancic in women’s shot, coming in second with a throw of 37-00.5. Danielle Noe was also second in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:21.40. Aubrie Stechschulte finished second in the long jump with a leap of a 16-05.25. Also earning second-place was sophomore Rebecca Silverstein, clocking in at 11:52.43 in the 3,000. Freshman Amanda Binkey ran a time of 3:14.43 in the 1,000 meter run, earning second place, as well. In the 55-meter dash, Schulte ran a time of 7.74 for second place. The Ohio Northern women’s track and field team returns to action next Friday, Jan. 18, when its hosts Friday Night Series Meet #2 at the ONU Sports Center in Ada. |
