Otterbein spoils Ohio Northern's Senior Day with 6-3 victory |

April 12, 2008 By Patrick Massara ADA The Ohio Northern Women’s Tennis team fell to Otterbein 6-3, on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. This was the Polar Bear’s first Ohio Athletic Conference loss this season as their record now stands at 6-1 and 17-4 overall. This was the first home loss as well for ONU as its record now stands as 7-1 in Ada. Otterbein betters its record to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The senior duo of Ashley Yontz and Betsy Brichler defeated their opponent in No. 2 doubles 8-1. The win is the pair’s sixth in a row as they move to 6-1 in OAC play. Freshman Liz Bajusz won her No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-2. The win moves her to 6-1 in conference play. In No. 6 singles, sophomore Jacki Hillis worked hard for her victory as she won 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. The win gives her a seven-match winning streak in singles play as she remains undefeated in the OAC. Brichler also won an exhibition match 6-3, “This was a memorable day for Ashley and I being the only seniors,” Brichler stated. “We achieved the goal of a quick start in our doubles match in order to earn the win. While I have had fun playing at ONU, there is still more to accomplish before the season ends.” ONU will host its final home match of the season Tuesday, as it will face OAC foe Baldwin-Wallace. The match will begin at 3:30 pm at University Courts. |
