WTennis Remains Unbeaten In OAC Play with win over Marietta |

Mar. 28, 2008 By Patrick Massara MARIETTA The Ohio Northern women’s tennis team continued OAC play with a 7-2 win at Marietta on Friday. The Polar Bears are 2-0 in conference play and 11-3 overall. Both of the Pioneers matches this season have occurred in conference play where their record stands at 0-2. Senior Ashley Yontz continues to move up the career wins list at ONU as she won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Yontz and fellow senior Betsy Brichler also won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Yontz’s two wins give her 113 combined wins in her career tying her for sixth all-time with Courtney Anderson. Freshman Liz Bajusz won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Bajusz and Jacqueline Sammon combined for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Katie Gibbs shut out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. She teamed up with Jacki Hillis in No. 3 doubles to win 8-0. Freshman Kristen Temperman also picked up a win for the Polar Bears as she won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Sammon lost a heartbreaker in No. 1 singles to Marietta’s Amanda Carraher. After winning the first set 6-0, Sammon lost in the tie-breaker in the second set followed by a third set loss. Carraher continued her winning ways in the OAC as she has won her last 11 conference matches. Ohio Northern continues conference play on Sat. March 29 as they travel to John Carroll at 11:00 am. |
