Polar Bears open OAC slate with 8-1 victory over Capital |

March 26, 2008 By Patrick Massara ADA The Ohio Northern women’s tennis team opened OAC play with a convincing 8-1 win over Capital Wednesday afternoon at the University Courts. The Polar Bears better their record to 10-3 and are 1-0 in OAC action, while the Crusaders record falls to 1-3, 0-1. The freshmen duo of Liz Bajusz and Jacqueline Sammon won No. 1 doubles 8-3. Both also won their singles matches as well. Sammon won 6-4,6-1 at No.1 singles while Bajusz won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Seniors Ashley Yontz and Betsy Brichler combined for a 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Yontz also earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Her two wins today gives her 111 wins for her career and moves her into sixth place on the ONU women’s tennis career wins list, passing Bridget Larson. Sophomores Katie Gibbs and Jaclyn Hillis won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. Gibbs also won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Freshman Kristen Timperman also won with scores of 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. The Polar Bears continue conference play on Friday as they travel to Marietta for a 4:00 pm match. |
