ONU extends win streak to eight matches with win at Heidelberg

TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern women’s tennis team continued their winning ways as they defeated Heidelberg 8-1 Wednesday afternoon.

The win is the Polar Bears’ eighth in a row and keeps them undefeated this season in Ohio Athletic Conference play at 6-0. ONU improves to 17-3 overall.

Heidelberg moves to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Senior Ashley Yontz was one of three Polar Bears to win two matches on the day. Along with fellow senior Betsy Brichler, the duo won No. 2 doubles 8-5.

The two were down 5-0 to start the match but were able to put a run together to win the next eight games and earn the match win.

In her No. 2 singles match, Yontz won 6-0, 6-3. She is now 17-5 in singles matches this year.

Sophomores Katie Gibbs and Jacki Hillis were the other two to win multiple matches. They combined for their team-leading eleventh doubles win on the year by topping Heidelberg in No. 3 doubles 8-5.

Gibbs also won her No. 4 singles match in a proset 8-4 while Hillis won her No. 6 singles match 6-2, 6-4.

Freshman Kristen Timperman won her eighth singles match in a row as she won her No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Jacqueline Sammon won 6-2, 6-3.

Fellow freshman Liz Bajusz topped her No. 3 singles opponent 6-0, 6-1.

ONU returns home Saturday for their next match. The Polar Bears will host OAC foe Otterbein at 1 pm.
