ORLANDO, Fla. — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its spring break trip with a 5-4 victory over Alma (Mich.) on Saturday.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Scots fall to 0-2.

Alma originally won the match 5-4, but Ohio Northern protested the use of an illegal lineup by the Scots. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association upheld ONU's protest, reversing the 5-4 Alma win into a 5-4 ONU victory.

As per ITA rules, the individual match results will remain unchanged.

Northern split the six singles matches, led by a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles by freshman Jacqueline Sammon.

Senior Ashley Yontz won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and sophomore Katie Gibbs won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

Sammon and freshman Liz Bajusz won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Ohio Northern will continue action during its annual spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., on Sunday when they face NCAA Division I foe Providence of the Big East Conference at 2 pm.
