Ohio Northern falls to Wittenberg in both men's and women's competition |

Nov. 16, 2007 By Tim Glon SPRINGFIELD The Ohio Northern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in non-conference dual meets at Wittenberg Friday night at the HPER Center. Wittenberg (2-3) edged the Polar Bear men (2-3) in a tight 121-119 contest. Northern won five individual events and one relay. Michael Schultz won the 1,000 free in 10:46.83 and finished second in the 500 free in 4:57.62 to lead the Polar Bears Northern also swept the sprint freestyle events, as Adam Lill won the 50 free in :22.86 and Brett Kuhn won the 100 free in 49.50 seconds. Mike Anderson won the 100 breast in 1:05.18 and George Chesney won the 3-meter diving with a score of 267.50. The 200 free relay team of Kuhn, Lill, Andre Valez and John Fusco won in 1:30.96. The Lady Polar Bears (2-4) dropped a close 135-108 decision to the Lady Tigers (3-1). Hannah Bokowy, Cassie Fennell and Terri Lynn Shigle each won events to pace ONU. Bukowy won the 100 breast in 1:10.09, Fennell won the 100 back in 1:05.65 and Shigle won the 1-meter diving with a score of 192.70. The 200 medley relay team of Kathryn Heagle, Amanda Lowell, Jenna Schaffner and Samantha Ruffing also won. Brittany Spangler finished second in the 1- and 3-meter diving events with scores of 192.00 and 173.20, respectively. Katherine Moore finished second in the 50 free in :26.42 and was second in the 100 fly in 1:04.72. Jillian Huber also had a pair of second place finishes, placing second in the 200 I.M. in 2:23.24 and finishing second in the 100 free in :58.57. Both Ohio Northern squads will return to action Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at the Wooster Invitational. |
