Lady Polar Bears open OAC slate with rout of Wilmington

WILMINGTON — The Ohio Northern women’s swimming and diving teams downed Wilmington to open Ohio Athletic Conference action in winning style Friday night.

The Lady Polar Bears swam away with a score of 152-52.

Sophomore Sara Oswald led ONU with a pair of wins in the 200m IM with a time of 2:42. 07 and 400m freestyle in 5:03.80.

Sophomores Jillian Huber and Janelle Cain finished 1-2 in the 50m freestyle with times of :30.74 and :30.80 respectively.

Also leading the pack with first place finishes were sophomore Kathryn Heagle in the 200m freestyle (2:28.77), Janelle Cain in the 100m fly (1:16.36), sophomore Katie Moore in the 100m free (1:06.00) and freshman Cassie Fennell in the 100m backstroke (1:14.77).

Huber and Moore joined sophomore Kim Randall and freshman Hannah Bukowy to win the 200m medley relay in 2:10.25 while the Lady Bears went 1-3 in the 200m freestyle with first place going to the relay of Fennell, Randall, sophomore Renee Campbell, and senior Samanthat Ruffing.

The Lady Polar Bears are now 1-0 in the OAC. They return to action on Saturday, October 27 at Ohio Northern Sports Center Natatorium against OAC rival John Carroll University.
