Jan. 11, 2008 By Joanne West OBERLIN The Ohio Northern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams topped non-conference foe Oberlin Friday night at the Oberlin Robert Carr Pool. The Polar Bear women edged out the Yeomen 150-148 which advances ONU to 3-4 overall. Several Polas Bears took first place finishes to help put ONU over Oberlin. Leading the pack were Kim Randall in the 200 free, finishing in 2:03.58. Hannah Bukowy finished first in the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:10.99. Janelle Cain took top honors in the 200 breaststroke in 2:38.53. Diver Terri Lynn Shigle won the 1- meter diving with 191.75 points. Several second place finishes made the difference in the close meet. Katie Moore posted two second place finishes in the 50 free (26.20) and the 100 free (58.08). Jillian Huber was second in the 100 back with a 1:05.77. Lacey Shumate finished second in the 200 back in 2:20.99, and Cassie Fennel finshed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.71. Ohio Northern won both relays to seal the victory. Randall and Bukowy teamed up with Cassie Fennel and Katie Moore to win the 200 medley relay in 1:54.19. Fennel, Moore, Randall, and Huber claimed victory in the 400 freestly relay in 3:52.42 to finish the meet with a bang. The Lady Polar Bears return to action with two meets on Saturday, first at Notre Dame College in the morning and then at OAC rival Mount Union at 1 pm. |
