Feb. 15, 2008 By Joanna West AKRON The Ohio Northern women’s swimming and diving continued to swim fast on Day 2 of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship at the University of Akron. Freshman Hannah Bukowy won the 100 breast in a new OAC-record time of 1:07.18. That mark also qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Lacey Shumate, Bukowy, Katherine Moore, and Cassie Fennell broke the ONU school record and the OAC record to become the OAC Champs in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:51.00. Shumate, Jillian Huber, Janelle Cain, and Kim Randall also took All-OAC honors in the 800 free relay by finishing second in 8:14.15. OAC Champ Jillian Huber added another victory in the 100 back in 1:01.77. Cassie Fennel earned All OAC honors by finishing second in the 100 back in 1:03.22. Kathryn Heagle scored eighth with a time of 1:06.93. OAC Champ Lacey Shumate won the 400IM for the second year in a row with a time of 4:48.33. Sara Oswald was fourth in 5:00.00. Amanda Lovell was fifth in 5:02.71 and Janelle Cain was seventh in 5:08.18. Katherine Moore claimed the OAC title in the 100 fly in 1:00.17. Robin Linkenheil was seventh in 1:07.70 and Luisa Chinchilla was eighth in 1:07.73. Kim Randall earned All-OAC honors by taking second in the 200 free in 2:00.06. Kelly Jensen was eighth in the event with a time of 2:06.98. Sam Ruffing scored in the 100 breast finishing seventh with a time of 1:14.03. Jessica Heidrich was eighth in the 100 breast in 1:15.07. Divers Brittany Spengler and Jenna Schaffner added points to scoreboard in the 3 meter diving. Spengler finished seventh with 284.15 points and Schaffner was eigth with 261.55 points. The Lady Polar Bears stand in second place after two days of competition with 172 points behind John Carroll University’s 176. |
