Ohio Northern clinches share of OAC Regular Season title with 156-87 victory over Mount Union

ALLIANCE— The Ohio Northern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Mount Union Saturday to clinch a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season titles.

The Polar Bear women (5-4 overall, 3-0 OAC) won 10 events to outscore Mount Union 156-87 and win at least a share of the OAC Regular Season title for the third straight year.

Leading the way was double winner Jillian Huber who won both the 1000 free in 11:51.08 and the 100 free in 57.97.

Kim Randall was first in the 200 free, finishing in 2:03.05.

Sara Oswald touched first in the 400 IM in 5:07.69 while Lacey Shumate was third in 5:09.78.

Katie Moore outsprinted the field in the 100 fly, finishing first in 1:03.21.

Shumate also finished first in the 100 back in 1:07.66 while Kathryn Heagle was second with a 1:08.71.

Amanda Lovell scored first place in the 500 free in a time of 5:44.08.

Hannah Bukowy was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.91, Moore was second in 1:18.61 and Sara Oswald was third in 1:19.30.

ONU won both relays, starting the relay team of Moore, Randall, Bukowy, and Cassie Fennell in the 200 medlay with a time of 1:54.17.

Fennell and Randall later teamed with Huber and Janelle Cain to seal the title with a win in the 200 free relay touching first in 1:46.89.

The Polar Bears return to action on Friday at 1 pm against Case Western Reserve in their annual Swim for Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser and Senior Recognition Day at ONU Sports Center Natatorium.
