Ohio Northern downs OAC rival John Carroll 144-96

ADA — The Ohio Northern men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll in the home opener Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Lady Polar Bears (2-0 overall, 2-0 OAC) knocked off the Blue Streaks (1-1, 1-1) 144-96.

Sophomores Katherine Moore and Jillian Huber won two events each to lead ONU.

Moore won the 50 free in :25.70 and won the 100 fly in 1:01.84.

Huber won the 200 I.M. in 2:20.79 and won the 100 back in 1:05.90.

Sophomore Terri Lynn Shigle won the 1-meter diving competition with 225.80 points and freshman Hannah Bukowy won the 100 breast in 1:12.60.

The Lady Polar Bears also swept the two relay events as Huber, Bukowy, sophomore Janelle Cain and sophomore Kim Randall won the 400 medley relay in 4:18.84 and Randall, Moore, senior Samantha Ruffing and freshman Cassandra Fennell won the 400 free relay in 3:52.95.

Both Ohio Northern teams will return to action next Friday when they travel to Kenyon and next Saturday when they host Wooster at the ONU Sports Center.
