Swimmers cruise past B-W, win OAC regular season crown outright

BEREA — The Ohio Northern swimmers completed their regular season by swimming past Baldwin-Wallace Saturday to win the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship outright with a perfect 4-0 league record.

The Polar Bear women (7-4 overall) won 11 of 13 events to win 167-69.

Leading the way was Jillian Huber with double wins in the 200 free in 2:07.00 and 100 free in 58.32.

Terri Lynn Shigle won the first 1-meter diving event with 163.05 points and was also first in the second 1-meter diving event with 209.25 points.

Kelly Jensen was first in the 1000 free in 11:56.42 and Delaney Banas was second in 12.128.57.

Cassie Fennell was first in the 50 free in 26.59.

Fennell was also first in the 100 back in 1:06.13 and Lacey Shumate was second in 1:07.85 and Renee Campbell was third in 1:09.11.

Janelle Cain was first in the 500 free with a time of 5:46.29 and Delaney Banas was second in 5:58.33 and Kathryn Heagle was third in 5:58.53.

Hannah Bukowy was first in the 100 breast in 1:10.78.

Bukowy, Cain, Fennell, and Kim Randall teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in 1:58.63.

Randall, Huber, and Shumate later teamed up with Katie Moore to seal the victory in the 200 free relay in 1:47.27.

The women are now 7-4 overall and will return to action on February 14 at the University of Akron at the OAC Championships as they look to defend their Ohio Athletic Conference Championship title.
