By Gary Petit ADA Junior Katie Schaadt (Westerville/St. Francis de Sales) and sophomores Kaitlin Sanders (Kendallville, Ind./East Nobel) and Angie Pisut (Huber Heights/Carroll) were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region teams. Voting was conducted by every coach in the Great Lakes Region. Schaadt was named to the First Team All-Region, Sanders to the Second Team and Pisut to the Third Team. This is the first time for all three players earning All-Region honors. Schaadt also was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Defender of the Year along with being named First Team All-OAC. The junior defender was a key part of a defense that allowed just 20 goals and was third in the OAC with eight shutouts. Schaadt recorded her seventh career assist in a 6-0 win over Heidelberg on Oct. 4. She also earned First Team All-OAC and All-Ohio honors in 2006.
She finished second in the OAC with eight assists and also scored her 12th career goal against Wilmington on Oct. 17. Sanders earned First Team All-OAC and Academic All-Honors this season and was a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-Region honoree. Pisut got off to a hot start this past season, scoring eight goals in the team’s first six games. She became the 17th Lady Polar Bear to record a hat trick when she scored three times in a 6-3 win over Ohio Wesleyan. Pisut finished the season with an OAC-leading 13 goals and 29 points and was named the OAC Forward of the Year. She also earned First Team All-OAC and Honorable Mention Academic All-OAC honors for the first time in her career. “This is a great honor for these three players,” said ONU head coach Mark Batman. “I think this is a good reflection of our players and team and I feel the best years for ONU soccer are yet to come.” ONU had a 12-5-2 overall record and won its first OAC regular season title since 1998. The Polar Bears finished the OAC regular season at 8-0-1, the first undefeated OAC season in school history. |
