ONU blanks Transylvania (Ky.) 1-0 in 2007 season opener

DANVILLE, Ky. — Sophomore Angie Pisut scored her first goal of the season to lead the Ohio Northern women's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Transylvania (Ky.) Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Centre (Ky.) Showcase.

The Polar Bears (1-0) now improve to 4-1-2 in season openers since 2000.

In the first half, both teams recorded five shots but neither team could scratch the scoreboard and they went into the half scoreless.

At the 55:26 mark of the second half, Pisut took a long through ball from senior Meggan Gobin and put it in the back of the net from 18 yards out for the only score of the contest.

The Pioneers (0-1) outshot the Polar Bears 11-7 and took three more corner kicks but ONU goalkeeper Barbie Krieger stood tall and did not allow a goal while recording five saves.

ONU will return to action Sunday to take on Centre in the second round of the Centre Classic at 3:30 p.m.
