Pisut scores but Hope (Mich.) downs ONU Women’s Soccer Team 3-1

HOLLAND, Mich. — The Flying Dutch (3-3) scored once in the first half and twice in the second half to down the Ohio Northern women’s soccer team 3-1 Saturday afternoon.

Sophmore Angie Pisut scored Northern’s only goal of the game, improving her team-leading mark to six for the season.

Thirty-three minutes into the first half, Hope took a corner kick which deflected off an Ohio Northern player into the net to give the Flying Dutch their first goal of the game.

Just 19 seconds before halftime, Stacey Barnhart assisted Pisut on the team’s first and only goal.

Hope’s goal keeper, Kelly Schaeffer had five saves in the first half while ONU’s goal keeper, Barbie Krieger, had two.

The Flying Dutch opened the scoring in the second half in the 69th minute when Sarah Sosolik took an unassisted shot to give Hope a 2-1 lead.

In the 82nd minute, Hope’s Ellie Tresslar assisted teamate Allison Van Beek for the final score of the game.

Schaeffer and Krieger stood stong in goal during the second half each saving four shots, giving Schaeffer a total of nine saves for the game and Krieger six.

Although ONU outshot Hope 18-10 and held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks, they couldn’t bring home the victory.

The Polar Bears will be back home on Wednesday, Sept. 19 as part of a men’s and women’s double-header against Anderson (Ind.). The women’s game is set for 3 pm and the men for 5 pm.
