ADA — Ohio Northern seniors Erin Brand (Yorkshire/Marion Local) and Jenny Markle (Fairlawn/Copley) were named First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference in women’s basketball for the 2007-08 season.

This is Brand’s third All-Conference nomination and Markle’s first as Northern was the only team to receive two First Team awards.

Brand had a solid senior season, leading the team in scoring at 14.3 points per game and in rebounding at 5.1 rebounds per contest. She scored double figures in 22 of 26 games, including the last 13 games of the season.

On Feb. 2, against Baldwin-Wallace, Brand became the seventh Lady Polar Bear to score 1,000 career-points. She finished her career with 1,120 points and is fourth all-time in ONU history.

Brand becomes the first two-time All-OAC First Team honoree in ONU women’s basketball history. She also received Honorable Honors All-OAC honors as a freshman in 2004-05.

Markle ends her career as ONU’s best 3-point shooter. She made a school record 239 career 3-pointers, including the top two single-season totals of 73 and 69 in each of the last two years.

Currently, Markle leads all three NCAA divisions this season at 56.1 percent (69-of-123) from beyond the arc. She also stands to be the leader of all three NCAA divisions in career 3-point percentage at 50.4 percent (239-of-474).

Markle ends her career with 980 career points which is eighth all-time in school history. She is also sixth with 132 steals.

The Polar Bears had a 19-7 overall record this season and were second in the OAC with a 14-4 mark. Both win totals were the most since the 1987-88 season.
