Cevasco, Markle named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors Jenny Markle (Fairlawn/Copley) and Megan Cevasco (Copley) earned Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in women’s basketball for the 2007-08 season.

Markle is a two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, earning First Team honors this season and Honorable Mention honors last year.

Cevasco garnered Academic All-OAC honors for the third time in her career. She earned Honorable Mention this season after earned First Team honors each of the past two seasons.

Markle, who also was named First Team All-OAC, ends her career as ONU’s best 3-point shooter. She made a school record 239 career 3-pointers, including the top two single-season totals of 73 and 69 in each of the last two years.

Currently, Markle leads all three NCAA divisions this season at 56.1 percent (69-of-123) from beyond the arc. She also stands to be the leader of all three NCAA divisions in career 3-point percentage at 50.4 percent (239-of-474).

Markle ends her career with 980 career points which is eighth all-time in school history. She is also sixth with 132 steals.

Cevasco, had a solid senior season, averaging 6.5 ppg and was second on the team at 4.7 rpg. Against John Carroll on Feb. 9, she scored a season-high 18 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds in the Polar Bear’s 79-76 victory. She also hit a career-high four 3-pointers in the contest.

In her 100 career games, Cevasco averaged 7.3 ppg and 4.4 rpg. She is sixth all-time at ONU in career 3-point percentage at 37.1 and eighth in career blocked shots with 37.

The Polar Bears had a 19-7 overall record this season and were second in the OAC with a 14-4 mark. Both win totals were the most since the 1987-88 season.
