No. 15 Ohio Northern struggles at the Washington (Mo.) Invitational

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — No.15-ranked Ohio Northern went 0-2 on day two of the Washington (Mo.) Invitational and finished the tournament with an 0-4 record.

The Polar Bears, now 4-4, lost to Central (Iowa) in the first match of the day 27-30, 30-16, 30-24, 28-30, 12-15. In the second match, ONU fell to NCAC-foe No. 2 Wittenberg 27-30, 24-30, 20-30.

On the day, sophomore Liz Schnelle recorded 25 digs and seven digs, including a team-high 17 kills against Central.

Senior All-American Laura Vuyk had 21 kills in the two matches and also recorded her fourth double-double of the season against Central, recording 15 kills and 21 digs.

Junior setter Katie Weininger had 56 assists against Central and 30 more against Wittenberg, giving her 152 assists on the weekend to go along with 16 kills.

Sophomore libero Mandi Fought had a team-high 31 digs against Central and 14 against Wittenberg.

The Polar Bears will look to rebound this Tuesday when they travel to Bluffton for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
