Schnelle leads No. 13 ONU in sweep over Muskingum

ADA — No. 13 Ohio Northern volleyball swept Muskingum in its first home Ohio Athletic Conference match of the season thanks to a strong offensive performance from middle hitter Liz Schnelle Thursday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears are now 12-4, 2-0 OAC, while the Muskies fall to 14-6, 0-2.

ONU won the three games 30-22, 33-31, 30-26.

Schnelle had 19 kills, six digs and two total blocks to help the Polar Bear cause.

Fellow middle hitter Samantha Markham also had a nice match offensively with 12 kills while outside hitter Laura Vuyk had 13 kills.

Vuyk also played well in the back row with 16 digs, recording another double-double.

Katie Weininger had 53 assists on the night while pitching in seven digs and three kills.

Along with Vuyk, three other Polar Bears had a double-digit dig total.

Mandi Fought had 25 digs and four aces, Liz Decima had 19 digs and Renee Berry had 12 digs.

“Muskingum came in with a game plan and executed it quite well,” said head coach Kate Witte. “We struggled with the basics at time because of the pressure they put on us.”

Northern will be in action Friday and Saturday at the Mt. St. Joseph Invitation in Cincinnati, Ohio
