Schnelle named MVP as ONU goes undefeated at Mt. St. Joseph Fall Classic

CINCINNATI – Sophomore middle hitter Liz Schnelle was again unstoppable on Day 2 of the Mount St. Joseph Fall Classic to lead Ohio Northern past Heidelberg and Anderson (Ind.) and give the Polar Bears a perfect 4-0 record on the weekend.

The two victories today made it 12 in a row for the Polar Bears who are now 16-4 on the season.

Schnelle, who was named Most Valuable Player for the tournament, had 16 kills against Heidelberg and 21 kills against Anderson with only two hitting errors on the day.

Her 77 kills on the weekend almost equaled her total at the ONU Invitational of 83 earlier in the season that earned her AVCA National Player of the Week honors.

The majority of her kills were assisted by setter Katie Weininger who had 79 assists and 18 digs, playing in only five games of the two matches.

Laura Vuyk provided 20 kills and 22 digs for Northern while Abby Schaller had 18 kills and three blocks.

ONU struggled early in each game against Heidelberg but was able to win the match 30-27, 30-25, 30-21.

Against Anderson, ONU was able to control the match, winning 30-25, 30-23, 30-26.

In Game 3 against the Ravens, setter Kelly Smerekanich had 20 assists of the 23 kills Northern accumulated.

On they day, libero Mandi Fought led the defense with 32 digs.

The Polar Bears will again be in action against conference opponent Otterbein Tuesday at 7 pm.
