No. 10 Ohio Northern goes 1-1 on
Day 1 of Emory (Ga.) Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. — No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern opened the Emory (Ga.) Invitational Friday with a sweep of Randolph Macon (Va.) and a 3-1 setback to host No. 9 Emory (Ga.) in the nightcap.

The Polar Bears (24-5 overall) downed Randolph Macon (11-13) 30-18, 30-28, 30-20 this afternoon in the Woodruff PE Center. The win was the 20th straight for ONU.

Liz Schnelle had 13 kills and Melissa Goodman added 10 kills to lead the Polar Bears.

Katie Weininger dished out 45 assists, Amanda Fought had 19 digs and Liz Decima had 15 digs for ONU.

Against Emory (24-6), the Bears saw their 20-game win streak snapped in four games, 34-32, 25-30, 21-30, 22-30.

Schnelle again led the Northern offense with 15 kills, but struggled, committing a season-high 11 hitting errors.

Senior Laura Vuyk posted another double-double with 12 kills and a team-high 19 digs. Weininger ended the match with 39 assists.

Emory's Aylsse Meyer led four Eagles in double-digit kills with 18 while Madison Robelen had a match-high 61 assists.

The Polar Bears will conclude the Invitational tomorrow at 11 am when they take on Birmingham Southern (Ala.) who are 28-3 on the season.
