Vuyk leads No. 12 ONU in sweep over Defiance

ADA — Senior Laura Vuyk led both the offense and the defense with 17 kills and 14 digs as No. 12 Ohio Northern swept Defiance Tuesday at the Weaner Center.

The Polar Bears won 30-21, 30-24, 30-22 to improve their record to 11-4 while Defiance falls to 4-11.

ONU recorded 55 kills and hit .369 as a team for the match.

Liz Schnelle added nine kills to help the offense while Mandi Fought and Liz Decima added 15 and nine digs, respectively.

All Polar Bears in uniform saw action in the match.

Katie Weininger dished out 30 assists, and Kelly Smerekanich added 13 assists in her game at setter.

Weininger also had five kills with a .556 hitting percentage.

Renee Berry, Schnelle, Vuyk, and Abby Schaller all hit .400 or better for the match as well.

Defiance outside hitter Sara Porter led all hitters with 18 kills.

Ohio Northern will be in action again Thursday against Ohio Athletic Conference foe Muskingum at 7 pm at the ONU Sports Center.
