March 1, 2007 By Tim Glon TUCSON, Ariz. Senior Lynda Thomas became the 22nd member of Ohio Northern's 100-Hit Club, leading the Polar Bear softball team to victories over Texas Lutheran and Waynesburg (Pa.) Saturday at the Tucson Games. Ohio Northern wrapped up its schedule at the Tucson Games tournament with a 7-3 record and will bring a 7-game winning streak home to Ada. Texas Lutheran falls to 1-4 and Waynesburg falls to 0-2. Thomas went 4-for-8 on the day with a double and four RBI, giving her 102 hits for her career. Her RBI-double in the top of the eighth inning broke a 3-3 tie and sparked a 4-run inning, giving ONU a 7-3 extra-innings victory over Texas Lutheran in the first game of the day Saturday morning. Abby Majoy then singled home Thomas to make it 5-3 and Mandi Fought had a 2-run single to score Majoy and Danielle Goubeaux to put the game out of reach. Liz Decima added a pair of doubles for Ohio Northern. Stephanie Inkrott posted her fourth consecutive victory and improved to 4-1 on the year with her complete-game win. In the final game of the trip, Northern scored 11 runs on 11 hits and got outstanding pitching to defeat Waynesburg in five innings. Cortney Cash and Katie Kesler combined for a 4-hit shutout. Cash (3-2) threw the first four innings and Kesler closed out the game in the fifth. Tina Mangola, Decima and Lisa Goltry each had doubles to lead the ONU offense. The Polar Bears will return to action March 15-16 at the Ferrum (Va.) Invitational. |
