Feb. 29, 2007 By Tim Glon TUCSON, Ariz. The Ohio Northern softball team ran its win streak to five games with a pair of 5-inning victories on the fourth day of the Tucson Games on Thursday. The Polar Bears (5-3) defeated Saint John Fisher (N.Y.) 10-1 in the first game of the day Thursday morning, then topped Trinity International (Ill.) 9-0 Thursday afternoon. Both games were called after five innings due to the NCAA's 8-run rule. Stephenie Inkrott scattered six hits in a complete game victory in the opener agaist SJF. Northern batted around in the third frame, scoring five runs, to turn a 4-1 game into a commanding 9-1 advantage. Tina Mangola and Mandi Fought each smacked doubles to lead the ONU offense. In game two, the Polar Bears batted around in the first inning, scoring six runs, and added three more in the second to quickly take a 9-0 lead. Courtney Cash evened her record at 2-2 with the three-hit shutout. Mangola and Fought again each drilled doubles to lead the ONU offense. Lynda Thomas went 2-for-5 on the day, giving her 98 hits for her career. She is just two hits shy of becoming the 22nd member of ONU's 100-Hit Club. The Polar Bears will conclude play in the Tucson Games with contests against Texas Lutheran and Waynesburg (Pa.) on Friday. |
