March 15, 2008 By Tim Glon FERRUM, Va, The Ohio Northern softball team split a pair of games on Day 1 of the 16-team Ferrum (Va.) Invitational on Saturday. The Polar Bears defeated Eastern Mennonite (Pa.) 6-4 in their second game of the day after falling to Peace (N.C.) 5-4 Saturday morning. Ohio Northern is now 8-4 on the season and is 1-1 in Pool C play. Lynda Thomas hit a 2-run, ground-rule double in the bottom of the seventh to rally Ohio Northern past Eastern Mennonite 6-4 Saturday afternoon. In the first game, Peace scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally from a 3-1 deficit for the win. Katie Salay hit a pinch-hit home run in the sixth inning to get ONU within 5-4. The Polar Bears will face Methodist (N.C.) on Sunday at 11 am and will play an opponent to be determined at 1 or 3 pm. |
