Knights set NCAA III Championships scoring record through semis; Clinch team championship

ADA — The record-setting weekend got even better for top-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) Saturday afternoon.

The Knights set an NCAA Division III Championships team scoring record, racking up 152.5 points, though the Championship Semifinals Saturday afternoon.

Wartburg clinched their fifth team championship in the past 13 years and snapped the streak of three consecutive championships by No. 2-ranked Augsburg (Iowa).

WC obliterated the previous record of 143 points set by Montclair State (N.J.) in 1976.

Augsburg is second with 76.5, No. 7-ranked Montclair State is third with 64 points and No. 8-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point is fourth with 61 points.

Wartburg advanced an NCAA Division III record six wrestlers into tonight's Championship round, also bettering a Montclair State record set in 1976 of five.

MSU holds a share of the NCAA III recors with four champions and a runner-up that season.

All three undefeated wrestlers that reached the semifinals advanced to the finals with victories Saturday afternoon.

Top-seeded Remi Ratel of Montclair State won by tech fall at 149, improving to 36-0 on the season. He will face third-seeded Garrett Kurth of Luther (Iowa) in the finals.

Augsburg's Marcus LeVesseur, the top-seeded wrestler at 157 pounds, won 8-1 to improve to 43-0 on the year. he will face off against second-seeded Kevin Bratland of Wartburg in the finals.

Second-seeded Cody Koenig of Wisconsin-Stevens Point had his second fall of the tournamentat 174 pounds to improve to 35-0. He will advance to the finals against top-seeded Eduard Aliakseyena of Montclair State.

The Championships will conclude Saturday night with the parade of All-Ameircans at 5 pm. The Consolation 3rd, 5th and 7th place matches will start at 5:30. Both of these session will be held in the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.

The Championship Matches will get underway at approximately 7:30 pm in the ONU Sports center Gymnasium.
