Brockport SUNY junior Shannon O’Keeffe finished strong and won the national title with a jump of 38-4 3/4 on her second attempt in the finals.

Washington (Mo.) senior Danielle Washington finished in a close second when she jumped 38-4 on her second attempt in the finals. Sophomore Kristin Bates of Messiah clinched third with a leap of 38-3 1/4 in her first attempts of the day.

O’Keeffe’s winning jump was 2 1/2 inches further than her qualifying effort of 38- 2 1/4. She was in third place entering round five.

Appie Herve of Chicago was fourth with a jump of 37- 6 3/4, Ashlea Peter of Wisconsin-Stout was fifth with an effort of 37-4 and St. Lawrence’s Jessica Venezia was sixth at 37- 3 1/4.

Emily Pfeufer of Allegheny was seventh at 37-3 and Shamyra Brown of New Jersey City was eighth with a jump of 37-1 1/4 to earn All-America honors.
