Monique Riddick

Montclair State freshman Monique Riddick threw her best on her last atttempt to win the women’s shot put national title with a throw of 46-4.75. She entered the event in ninth but came out a national champion.

Senior Lauren Lucci of Widener earned second with a throw of 45-11.25 and moved up on the podium after placing third at the national championship meet in 2006.

“Right now I am so excited. I came here hoping to win but I wanted to throw my farthest and get a personal record. I went into my final throw with the mind set that this was it and I should give it my all. I thought that I had nothing to lose.” -- Monique Riddick, Montclair St.
Third place was occupied by sophomore Marissa Banks of Augustana (Ill.) on only her second throw of the competition. The throw that earned her third measured in at 44-11.5. Otterbein junior Allyson Tobin placed fourth with a throw of 44-9.75.

Wisconsin River Falls teammates seniors Vicki Copper and Krista Hasselquist finished fifth and sixth respectively. Cooper earned fifth with a final throw of 44-7 and Hasselquist threw 44-6.75 to end up in sixth.

St. Lawrence sophomore Alyssa Pirinelli earned seventh with a throw of 43-11.25 and junior Rachael Clark, two time All-American, rounded out the top eight with a throw of 43-8.
